Even in Italy cases of fraudulent subscription The European Consumer Centre (ECC) warns from cases of fraudulent subscription on the Internet in Italy. In German-speaking countries these cost traps are already widespread. These traps are websites that offer free programs (such as Skype, Google Earth, Adobe Reader, etc.) for download, but not for free. As the programs are counted among the so-called “freeware” (free software), the consumers supposes that the download is free. The use of these sites is not free, you must fill out a registration form for the download and thus acquire a subscription for several years. Our advice is to always read with attention the small print before you disclose your personal data in Internet. Should you nevertheless fall into a subscription trap, don’t be intimidated by the warnings and threats of the website operator, but contact the European Consumer Centre of Bolzano and enforce your rights.
